Newborns
January 10, 2010It is no secret that I adore photographing newborns. There is nothing more precious than a sweet little baby – so fresh and new. It is always an honor to be asked to document these first few days for families. Because it is true, they will never be this small again.
A few important things to know about newborn sessions:
1. Newborn sessions are held before the baby is 2 weeks old This is critical in achieving the peaceful sleeping and “curling” shots that are seen on my website. After two weeks, the babies are more wakeful, can become more irritable, and their skin can develop “baby acne” and severe flaking. So, before 2 weeks is a must.
2. Sessions are held in my shooting space at my home in Burlington. After several years of working completely on location, I am now lucky to be able to photograph your sweet newborn here in my newborn shooting space. This allows me to have control of the lighting, as well as access to all of my wonderful blankets and accessories.
3.Bare is best Nothing is more pure than a sweet little bare baby curled up on a blanket. Most of the newborn photos I shoot show baby with nothing on. This is best because I honestly have never seen anything other than a simple white onesie that does not “swallow” the baby at this age. Feel free to lay out a white onesie for some shots if you like, as well as hats or headbands that you may like used in photos.
4. Contact me early It is never to early to contact me to schedule a newborn session. I reserve these sessions throughout the year, even if I am not booking standard sessions at that time. So please let me know early if you are wanting a newborn session for your baby. I would be happy to discuss more details with you and add you to my calendar.
