A few months back, we shot the first half of this little lady’s one year session during a very cold, wet spring afternoon. That’s just no fun! So we wanted to finish up her session on a warmer day when we would be sure to get some smiles. The sun definitely brought out the joy in this little girlie. She is so itty bitty with the biggest smile. It’s always such a pleasure to see you, little Miss Teagan!
I made a promise to myself that I would take on more personal projects and shoot what I love more this year. Nothing warms my heart more than loving images of moms with their children. So often, we are the ones that are stuck behind the camera. I know that I personally have 100s of images of my husband with the kids, but it wasn’t until my friend and fellow photographer Raye Law came to visit last fall that I actually had beautiful images of myself with my children. They are something I will treasure for always.
So, I decided in honor of Mother’s Day to hold a limited mini session event just for mothers and their children. I can not wait to capture real, meaningful images that these moms will have forever. The idea came to me months ago when I read a very moving blog post by Deb Schwedhelm that you can read here . I ask you to take a moment to read what she wrote about waiting for the “perfect time” for photographs. There really is no perfect time. Life goes by in a blink and we just never know what tomorrow will bring…
THE EVENT DETAILS
And now for the best part… the giveaway. I am so thrilled to be giving away a mini session gift certificate for one deserving mom. All of us who are mothers know what a difficult job it can be. Rewarding? Of course. The greatest gift? Most definitely. But if we are being honest, we all know how hard it is. I know there are mothers out there who are struggling for whatever reason, but are AMAZING moms. So, my blog readers… this is your chance to nominate that deserving mom to win this special Mommy & Me mini session. I have made it so easy for you! All you have to do is fill out this form about your nominee. Tell me what you think makes this mom special and why she deserves this giveaway. All of this is confidential – just between you and me. I will carefully read through them all and contact the winning mom privately. This special mom will win a complimentary Mommy & Me mini session and the entire gallery of high resolution images on CD. All I ask is that she allow me to share her images here on my blog.
Please take just a few moments to tell me about that special mom you know here. Mention this giveaway to your friends too! They may know of someone they would like to nominate. All entries must be received by April 30th.

A mother’s joy begins when new life
is stirring inside…
when a tiny heartbeat is heard for the
very first time,
and a playful kick reminds her that she
is never alone.
I was so fortunate to get to spend my morning with this beautiful woman as she is about to welcome their first child into this world… she was radiant. And now we wait to meet the little one growing inside. I’m looking forward to capturing the love of this new family soon.
Thank you again, Mychel for a wonderful session. Try and soak in and enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy. It won’t be long now…
Every year we take a trip to our cabin in Eastern Washington to enjoy some snow and winter fun. This year, I took along my film slr to capture some memories in black and white. I don’t pretend to know much of anything about shooting film. It is a new frontier for me but I am enjoying the challenge. When I look at black and white images of film photographers, there is just something so magical. The grain, the depth, the range of tones… I love it all. As for my images, they are simple snapshots of our trip but as always, I hope they capture the fun we had and preserve the memories of our time together.
When I think back on my favorite moments of 2010, I have one that jumps right to the top of the list. I was so lucky to have two of my very best friends come visit me from Arkansas and New York this last summer. Both of them are amazing photographers that I have met along the way and I couldn’t believe it when we were able to arrange a trip for both of them to visit at the same time! Allison had visited once before when we attended a workshop together in Seattle last year, but this was the first time Raye had been to the Pacific Northwest. We spent time in Seattle shopping and then spent some time just visiting and hanging out here in the valley.
But the highlight of the visit came when Raye, who is an amazingly talented photographer from the Fort Smith area in Arkansas, photographed my family. I now have something that I will treasure for always. Always the one behind the camera, I have so very few photos of me with my children. These images of me with my babies, being who we are at this very moment in time, are honestly the best gift anyone has ever given me. Our smiles, our laughs, our cuddles, our love… thank you, Raye. You honestly made my year. xoxo
Here are just a few of the moments she captured..
Raye and Allison, I can’t wait to see you both again this summer in New York for Allison’s family session. It will be amazing. Love you both so much. xoxo
How quickly a year goes… seems like only yesterday I was photographing little Jake’s newborn session and now here he is, a toddler on the go. You can see his newborn session here. After being a little unsure at first, he was all smiles by the end. Such an adorable little man.
Thank you Candice and David for asking me to photograph little Jake. He is so handsome! It was great visiting with you again.
